Dear Pi Phi Sisters,
Few people embodied the spirit of service and philanthropy quite like our fellow Pi Phi, Ruth Collins Altshuler. Her generosity and commitment to helping others left a lasting mark on Dallas, and we're proud to share two special opportunities to continue her legacy.
10th Annual Holiday Food Drive
Saturday, November 7, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
4000 McFarlin Blvd. | University Park
For more than 20 years, Ruth hosted a Thanksgiving food drive at her home, collecting food for Dallas families in need. In 2017, fellow Pi Phis Liza Collins and Rachel Stephens revived this wonderful tradition with Ruth's blessing.
Ten years later, the Holiday Food Drive has collected more than 45,000 pounds of food, thanks to the generosity of friends, families, neighborhood organizations, and community partners — including the Dallas Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club!
This year's donations will benefit three local organizations:
• Brother Bill's Helping Hand
• The Salvation Army
• The Wilkinson Center
How you can help: Simply drive by and drop off canned goods and nonperishable food items. Volunteers will be waiting to unload your donations, so you won't even need to leave your car!
Can't make it on November 7? You can have groceries delivered directly to the collection address through Amazon, Instacart, Walmart, Costco, or your favorite grocery delivery service
Every donation, large or small, helps us carry on Ruth's tradition of caring for our Dallas neighbors.
Another Special Tribute: The Ruth Collins Altshuler Emergency Shelter
We're also excited to share another extraordinary effort to honor Ruth's legacy.
In 1984, Ruth led the capital campaign to build The Salvation Army's Carr P. Collins Social Service Center, named in honor of her father. For more than 40 years, the center has provided hope and assistance to hundreds of thousands of people in need.
